Corporate Successes

But Mostly Failures

I See You

Remember when we used to have meetings in conference rooms when we actually used to go to the office? Then in March 2020 corporate America decided to all stay home and not spread this nasty little germ around. There was (and probably still is) a conference room in the department where I work. Whenever I was in there and people walked by, they would look in and we would look back. Then, I realized I did the same thing. Why is it so compelling to look into a conference room?

Now in this virtual COVID world, the question becomes, video or no video? If someone joins via video and I feel video-ready, I’ll turn my camera on. If the other person doesn’t have their video on, I quickly turn it on and if there is a likewise action, I’ll keep it on. If not, I quickly shut it off. I don’t want to seem boastful that on that particular day I had removed myself from my pajamas and could be seen.

Of course, I’ve gone the other way too. One day, with hair all over the place, no make-up and pajamas on, I accidentally turned the video on while I was bending to the side to pick up something. So, everyone got to see me from the side of my hip to my arm. I do think it was a particularly flattering color sweatshirt that day so that’s good.
